Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia in one day (private TriCity tour)
If you are coming to Poland via a Cruise ship, why not visit 3 cities in one day!
Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia are popularly known as the Tricity. Even though they have much in common they are very different. Gdansk is an old Hanseatic league city – and now capital of the Pomeranian Region. Sopot is a much younger and popular spa city. It is beloved by young people because of its easy-going attitude and large numbers of discos and bars. The youngest member of Tricity is Gdynia as it was only born in 1926, when the Polish government, unable to use the Gdansk port dominated by Germans, decided to build a new port in the location of this small fishing village.
Old town of Gdansk
We will start with The Upland Gate– the 16th century entrance to the Old Town of Gdansk. On our way we will see The Torture Houseand The Prison Tower – currently the Museum of Amber in Gdansk. Next we will enter Long Street and the Long Market and admire the most magnificent sights like: Artus Court a medieval meeting place for rich merchants, a symbol of Gdansk – The Neptune Fountain, The Golden House and The Green Gate. Here we will drop into one of the amber workshops to see a brief display of amber polishing also called „the gold of the Baltic Sea”. We will also learn how to recognise fake amber. Here the official Royal Route in Gdansk ends but we will walk further to see the banks of the Motlawa River and the medieval Crane. We will walk on the most picturesque street in Gdansk – Mariacka Street which will lead us to the biggest gothic brick church in the world – St. Mary’s church. Here we will see many interesting pieces of historical art. We will finish our trip at the richly decorated Great Armoury.
In Sopot we will walk along the famous promenade, the Heroes of Monte Cassino Street. Here we will see the fascinating Crooked House, which has won many competitions due to its distinctive shape. Later we will take a stroll along the longest wooden pier in Europe – Sopot pier.
